Toronto - Staircase Interior Design
A staircase interior design project in Toronto, with sculptural detailing and considered materials creating seamless flow between the home's levels.

Project Overview
Toronto - Staircase Interior Design is a living spaces project that treats the staircase as a designed element in its own right - the connective tissue between a home's levels and a moment of architecture that deserves attention. Barbara approached the staircase as both a functional route and a visual feature.
The design considers how people move up and down, the sightlines the staircase creates, and the materials and detailing that make it feel like part of the home rather than a leftover space.
Photographs of the finished staircase are shown on this page and in the gallery below.
Design Goals & Functional Considerations
The goals focused on a staircase that works well and looks intentional. That meant planning safe, comfortable circulation, considering the sightlines the staircase opens up, and selecting materials and detailing that tie it to the rest of the home.
Barbara worked with the homeowners to understand how the staircase fits their daily movement and how it should feel as part of the whole home.
Design Approach
Barbara's collaborative approach kept the homeowners involved throughout. She guided the material direction and detailing while the clients shaped the choices that connected the staircase to the rest of the interior.
Functionality came first - the circulation and proportions were settled before the sculptural and material details were layered in.
Materials, Finishes & Details
Materials were chosen for both durability and visual presence, with detailing that makes the staircase feel considered rather than utilitarian. The palette connects the staircase to the surrounding rooms so the home reads as one.
Specific materials and products are confirmed with each client. The photographs here show how the selections come together in the finished staircase.
